PARTNERS
TOTTENHAM GRAMMAR SCHOOL FOUNDATION
In addition to its work in the Academic Studies: Celebrating there
Ter Centenary Year, the Foundation has Funded numerous Sporting Activities
and Events in the Haringey Area.
Many Haringey Clubs have benefited from the Support of the Foundation
such as: The Haringey Sports Club; Grammariens RFC; The North London
Youth Sailing Trust; Haringey Cricket College. These are just a small
sample of the numerous Clubs that have benefited.
Much support has also been given to the Area of Disabilities. Without
their support the work in Haringey would not have reached the heights
and depth of excellence.
THE HORNSEY PAROCHIAL CHARITIES
Clubs and Organisations supporting the Hornsey Area have benefited
from the support of the Charity due to the involvement in the Promotion
of Education including Social and Physical Training.
HARINGEY COUNCIL
The Council's Leisure Services are supporting this Programme financially
and are committed to building up Partnerships with Sports providers;
to increase opportunities for Sports and Leisure for young people
in the Borough. (Chair of Leisure Sub-Committee: Clr Kyriakos Fiakkas/Deputy
Chair: Clr Ray Dodds).
HARINGEY SPORTS DEVELOPMENT
Haringey Sports Development arose from the belief and determination
to continue and develop full support to Haringey Schools within the
field of Sport and to continue to build on the foundation established
for Full Holiday Programmes and Comprehensive Development Programme
for Primary and Senior Schools in Haringey.
Achieved Awards for: Best Practise in Community (BURA) and Girls Football
(Football Association).
Haringey Sports Development is a Charitable Trust and a Company Limited
by Guarantee (England and Wales). Registered Number 2890964. Registered
Charity Number 1033081.
WHITE HART LANE SCHOOL
Continued support for the use of its sports facilities during and
after school hours, and support for the Development Programme.
URBAN FUTURES
SRB 4 Scheme
Tottenham Futures is a scheme that is funded by the Government (through
its Single Regeneration Budget fund) and various partners including
local businesses and voluntary groups.
The Government have pledged £7.1m over five years, towards an overall
total of £23.2m for Tottenham.
This money has been awarded to Tottenham because of the area’s economic
decline and failure to benefit from the recent boom years.
Tottenham has one of the highest concentrations of unemployment in
the entire country. Young people in the area face two main barriers:
low levels of educational achievement and job skills, coupled with
a lack of access to opportunities offered by employers.
The Tottenham Futures programme is designed to enable young people
to overcome these obstacles.
The scheme aims to target people between the ages of 14 and 24. Those
involved will fall into one of the following categories:
• 14-16
year olds who are failing at school, are likely to be excluded, or
have already been excluded.
• 16-24
year olds with no qualifications and no opportunity of achieving any.
• 16-24
year olds who have experienced discrimination and disadvantage in
the labour market.
• 18-24
year olds who are eligible for New Deal. Broadly speaking, the three
main objectives of the programme are to:
• cut
the number of school exclusions.
• raise
the skills level of young people.
• reduce
youth unemployment.
The Haringey Regeneration Agency is responsible for the management
of the scheme and the allocation of funds. Work is currently underway
with local schools, council departments and employment providers.
Tottenham Futures is co-ordinating the recruitment of staff for the
new Wood Green Cinema Development, and aims to fill 200 vacancies
there for local people.
In addition, Tottenham Futures is keen to explore the field of sports
development, both as a healthy pastime for youngsters and as a possible
route into employment.
At present there is a Midnight Basketball project, and other sports
are likely to be introduced for the young people of Tottenham.
By the end of its five-year life, the Tottenham Futures programme
hopes to have enabled 4000 pupils to have gained extra qualifications
and have placed 3500 people into employment. This will have a significant
impact on the lives of young people, and Tottenham as a whole.
